The Volta Regional Police Commander Peterkin Yentumi Gynae has revealed that they have no pictures to assist in re-arresting 7 remand prisoners who broke out of cells in Denu.
“We really don’t have their pictures now”, he told Joy News.
News of the cell break of seven remand prisoners has triggered chaos within the Denu community in the Keta South Municipality of the Volta Region.
Some residents who claim to be easy targets of these escaped suspects have hit the streets demanding that the police secure their re-arrest.
They say all the hard work they put in arresting the suspected criminals has gone down the drain due to the negligence of the police.
Speaking on the matter, the regional commander says he is relying on people in the community who know the suspects to help in identifying them.
He dismissed the possibility of the jail breakers returning to exact vengeance on those who facilitated their arrest. The Police commander believes the suspects will not stay in the community even though they are armed.
“We will by all means get them….. I don’t believe that they will come to Denu to cause any harm”, he maintained.
Security analyst Kwesi Aning wondered how the police was going to arrest the jailbreakers using community relations when on the other hand they believe the suspects are not in the community.
“9 out of 10 these guys are not going to come back to Denu”, he said.
He expressed disappointment in the fact that the police could not even tell the criminal offence which the jailbreakers are suspected to have committed.
The security analyst also revealed that a report on the police service tells grim tales of arms and ammunitions not properly protected and kept.
Dr. Kwesi Aning who has been calling for an independent commission into the operations of the entire police service following a recruitment scam into the service that has caused the interdiction of the Director-General in charge of Human Resource.
He believes the Denu jailbreak once again justifies the urgency and legitimacy of his call.
