The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has dismissed calls for the dissolution of its board. The call follows pressure from the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) on the WAEC’s board to be dissolved over the leakage of five of the examination papers and the subsequent cancellation.
WAEC had explained that their decision to cancel the said papers is in the best interest of the candidates. They added that, this will also make the institution’s certificate more credible.
Speaking to Citi News, the Deputy Director in charge of Public Affairs at WAEC, Agnes Teye Cudjoe asked the public to be circumspect in their criticism.
“It is unfortunate, investigations are going on and you can’t just say that heads should roll because of what has happened. When things happen like that, people become emotional and lash out at institutions and people who work in there, but let’s wait for the outcome of those investigations.”
NAGRAT on Thursday called for a dissolution of the WAEC board and for the head of the council, Rev. Samuel Ollenu to resign his position as investigations by the Bureau of National Investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the leakage.
