Actually, 1/2 of 5 = 2.5... But to be in line with the question when 2.5 is rounded to the nearest whole number, it becomes 3... Hence 1/2 of 5 = 3...

This implies that;

if 1/2 x 5 = 3
then 1/3 x 10= ?

Lets represent that unknown variable with Y, therefore the above relation becomes

5/2 = 3
10/3 = Y

Next, you have to cross multiply. So;

5/2 x Y = 10/3 x 3
5/2Y  =  10

now you multiply both sides by the denominator 2,
5Y =  2 x 10
5Y =  20

divide both sides by 5 gives;

5Y/5  = 20/5

Therefore

Y  = 4

So in conjunction with the question if 1/2 of 5 is 3, then 1/3 of 10 is 4 as required.....

I guess i helped in solving this question.... Thanks
