I wept for Ghana - Afriyie-Ankrah 16451762.295Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, has said, he did not feign emotions when he appeared at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry investigating the participation of the Black Stars at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but rather wept for Ghana.

“I wept because upon all the hard work, sleepless nights and the efforts, we put in the preparation and organisation, we failed to make it at the World Cup.

“I never thought I was going to weep. It was involuntary; I even wondered why I cried. It had nothing to do with the questions being asked. They were not difficult questions but I wept because I was sad for mother Ghana”. Afriyie-Ankrah stated. ,

Commenting on the role of government in sports development, Afriyie-Ankrah said, it was time government focuses its attention on infrastructural development in sports instead of pushing money into it.

According to the ex-minister, there was the need for corporate bodies to invest in the participation of Ghana in international competitions, whilst government concentrates on provision of infrastructure.

The minister at the last sitting shed tears when he was explaining the circumstances behind the early exit of the Black Stars.

According to the minister, he was emotional because he felt 2014 was the best opportunity for the team to make a huge impact at the World Cup.
