Building collapses on SHS student 67221627

A 22- year-old female resident of Essuekyir in the Cape Coast Metropolis, was found dead on Thursday morning, after the building in which she was sleeping, collapsed on her as a result of the previous day's heavy downpour.

Faustina Arthur, a student of the Nyankumasi Ahenkro Senior High school in the Assin South District, was found dead by a combined rescue team made up of officers from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The Regional Commander of the GNFS, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (AFCO) Semekor Kwaku Fiadzo who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, said the body had since been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Morgue.

Meanwhile, some communities in the Metropolis and other municipalities and districts of the region, have been flooded following two days of torrential down pour.

Affected communities in Cape Coast included Adisadel, Nkanfoa, Kamkumdo, and Essuekyir, Yawda (Thursday) and Anafo Markets where the gushing water destroyed several bags of rice, fish and other wares worth millions of Cedis.

A victim who had all her wares destroyed, reportedly collapsed upon seeing the extent of damage, especially the bags of rice which were drenched in the muddy water.

Personal effects of some of the victims in residential areas were also destroyed or washed away.

Mr. Sandy Amartey the Central Regional Coordinator of (NADMO), told the GNA in an interview that Elmina CP and Komenda in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo- Abrem Municipality, the Mankessim market and station in the Mfantseman District were also flooded.

He said Apam Junction and the assembly area in the Gomoa West District and some others in the Ekumfi District also had their fair share of the disaster.

Residents of the affected communities have been evacuated, while others were perching with families and acquaintances at safer communities.

Mr. Amartey expressed worry that with another immediate heavy down pour, the Kakum river which he said was surging up, could break it bounds and seriously flood surrounding communities.

He said NADMO would do its best to keep the situation under control, and advised the public to move to safety whenever they suspected their communities were prone to flood.

Hmmm.. This is a really sad moment coupled with really painful occurrences.. At one moment she was alive and healthy and her family members knew she was fine only to hear that she is no more the next morning.. Life is full of uncertainties because you never know what's next... What is so painful than thinking your children or child is safe in school only to find out that he/she is no more or vice versa...

That is certainly too much a shock for the body contain or take and could certainly have some psychological effects on those who have lost their loved ones.... This devastating flood has really caused so much harm and lots of people have painfully lost a lot... Poor student... What a painful way to pass away... May God have mercy on her soul and may she R.I.P....
