I wish I could host ‘By the Fireside’ again – Maame Dokono 57976493.295

Veteran Ghanaian actress and television presenter Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, has intimated she wants to go back to hosting family TV show - ‘By the Fireside’.

The Kwaku Ananse - story telling show, an initiative of the 31st December Women’s Movement, was popular in the 90’s.

Maame Dokono said the fallout from her failed political exploits destroyed many of the opportunities and jobs she had in show business.

“I wish I could do the fireside again you know, the story telling…” she bemoaned on Restoration with Stacy.

Maame Dokono, who was the face and the voice of the Saturday weekly, said she enjoyed the thrill it gave her and the impact it had on her audience, especially children.

But, according to her, she had a fallout with her former mentor, founder of the 31st December Women's Movement, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, who has the copyright of the show and until she irons out their differences, she cannot go back to hosting the show.

“You see, I loved that. I love to tell stories.

“I wish I could talk to her, we’ve started. We started the process. You know when Ophelia had her launch, I was there, she was there and both of us were on the high table. I said hello and she looked at me with a scorn but…” she shared.

She also told Stacy she has missed being on the silver screens doing one of the things she loved dearly, acting.

By The Fire Side.. Such an innovative program it was... During the 90's it was the most inspiring program to me and provided a platform to teach children of the Ghanaian Culture... During its existence, i remember how we used to time ourselves towards not missing that program.. They way boys would rush to watch it...

It was really great and had lots of teachings for anyone watching whether Grownups or children.. It actually was innovative and educative as well. At Least those time, we had programs like that which were educative as compared to now where there are a lot of the so called 'telenovela' which i think tend to impact immoral acts into the children who are allowed to watch at their homes...

Now a days , when you switch on the Television, all you see are lots of adverts on alcoholic drinks and other unnecessary stuffs which some children watch... I think if Maame Dokono can revive this program back, it will will do the children and to some extent, we the youth lots of help as some of these Ananse stories have great moral lessons..... Its a really great idea Maame Dokono...
