Kofi Jumah granted bail 27767831

Former Asokwa Member of Parliament Maxwell Kofi Jumah has been granted a 10,000 cedis bail by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Kofi Jumah who was arrested and charged with vandalising electoral materials at Saturday's New Patriotic Party Parliamentary primaries pleaded not guilty to the charge.

His lawyers are asking the prosecution to provide evidence of the destruction.

Jumah, who is not new to controversy, was accused of tearing voting papers and destroying election materials two hours into voting in his Asokwa constituency.

He was seeking to win back a seat he lost to Patricia Appiagyei, the incumbent Member of Parliament.

The two have had a frosty relationship for years now and a bitter election in the last primary with Jumah accusing Appiagyei of using her body for political favours.

That comments disgusted most of the delegates who voted against him in the last primary.

Four years on, the former Mayor of Kumasi was itching to return to Parliament but needed first to beat the incumbent MP.

On the day of the election, Kofi Jumah went haywire and was accused of going on a vandalism spree.

It was still unclear what may have provoked him to act that way but he was arrested together with his campaign manager Richard Oscar and put behind bar since Saturday.

He was arraigned before court, Monday Joy News' Erastus Asare Donkor reported. Richard Oscar has also been charged with preventing the arrest of Kofi Jumah.

The judge, Efia Adu Amankwa granted the two suspects bail at a bail bond of 10, 000 cedis each with one surety to be justified. They are to report at the Asokwa Police every Friday or have their bail revoked.

They are expected to reappear in court on June 29, 2015.
