Traders and commuters in the Sunyani Municipality have expressed their disapproval over the recent upward adjustment in the prices of petroleum products.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) announced a four percent increase in the prices of petroleum products earlier this week.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the traders stated that the increase would affect their businesses in terms of growth.

“The increment in the prices of fuel products, whether minimal or not, has an effect on everything since the lorry fares would be increased. We would also have to increase our stocks and this often affects sales,’’ said Grace Adu Twumwaa, a trader at the Sunyani central market.

Another trader, Vida Oduro, a textiles dealer, also lamented that adjustments in fuel prices often affected trading.

“People are unwilling to buy things when prices go up,” she said, adding, “Those who buy things have to be cajoled.”

Gideon Baah, a taxi driver, urged the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to come out with new fares since drivers in the region were still working with the old fares. This, according to him, was affecting their business.

The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) and the GPRTU are, however, yet to announce the new transport fares to reflect the new fuel price
