Mr Edward Kpornu, Chief Executive Officer of BC Global Foundation, a non- governmental organisation (NGO), has called on Ghanaians to see blood donation as something critical for the society.

Mr Kpornu made the call when the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in collaboration with BC Global Foundation, a NGO dedicated to health issues, organised a blood donation exercise as part of activities to mark this year’s World Blood Donors Day.

The exercise is being organised to support the Tema General Hospital Blood Bank as well as to support the victims of the June 3 flood and fire disasters at Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

Mr Kpornu said he was happy that the wrong perceptions some Ghanaians hold, that when one donates blood it negatively affect the individual, is changing.

Dr John Yabani, the Tema Metro Health Director, called on all able bodied Ghanaians to donate blood to save lives.

He said interested individuals, religious bodies and organisations, could approach the Health Directorate or the Tema General Hospital if they want to donate blood.

Yeah, Life is precious and we can only continue to live on when we save some blood for future emergency use... I cant imagine how the World will be now without hospitals judging from the way we take in so many chemicals into our bodies which in turn brings about illness..

We walk around without the knowledge of the presence of this sickness in our bodies only to fall down at one moment and might never get up again... Certainly the blood you donate today will definitely save someone's life tomorrow as you don't know what will happen next...

I think this blood donation exercise is a good and will continue to be a great exercise since its one of the few exercises that do not create a platform for money looting... The blood donated goes into the country's blood bank which is used to save other people's life which could be any of us..

I recommend that we all make it a point to approach the health directorate to donate some blood to help save the lives of those fortunate victims of the June 3 disaster and that of others as well...
