Bit Torrent Tutorials - Fri Sep 30, 2016 12:01 pm

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum 2345__bittorrent_2

The first things you need to know about using Bit Torrent:

-- Bit Torrent is aimed at broadband users (or any connection better than dialup).
-- Sharing is highly appreciated, and sharing is what keeps bit torrent alive.
-- A bit torrent file (*.torrent) contains information about the piece structure of the download (more on this later)
-- The method of downloading is not your conventional type of download. Since downloads do not come in as one
big chunk, you are able to download from many people at once, increasing your download speeds. There may be
100 "pieces" to a file, or 20,000+ pieces, all depending on what you're downloading. Pieces are usually small (under 200kb)
-- The speeds are based upon people sharing as they download, and seeders. Seeders are people who constantly
share in order to keep torrents alive. Usually seeders are on fast connections (10mb or higher).

In this tutorial, I will be describing it all using a bit torrent client called Azureus. This client is used to decode the .torrent files into a useable format to download from other peers. From here on out, I will refer to Bit Torrent as BT.

Which BT client you use, is purely up to you. I have tried them all, and my personal favorite is Azureus for many reasons. A big problem with most BT clients out there, is that they are extremely CPU intensive, usually using 100% of your cpu power during the whole process. This is the number one reason I use Azureus. Another, is a recently released plug-in that enables you to browse all current files listed on suprnova.org (the #1 source for torrent downloads).

Before you use the plug-in, take a look at suprnova.org, and browse the files. Hold your mouse over the links, and you'll notice every file ends in .torrent. This is the BT file extension. Usually, .torrent files are very small, under 200kb. They contain a wealth of information about the file you want to download. A .torrent file can contain just 1 single file, or a a directory full of files and more directories. But regardless, every download is split up into hundreds or thousands of pieces. The pieces make it much easier to download at higher speeds. Back to suprnova.org. Look at the columns:

Added | Name | Filesize | Seeds | DLs (and a few more which aren't very useful.)

I'll break this down.
Added: Self explanitory, its the date the torrent was added.
Name: Also self explanitory.
Filesize: Duh
Seeds: This is how many people are strictly UPLOADING, or sharing. These people are the ones that keep .torrent files alive. By "alive", I mean, if there's no one sharing the .torrent file, no one can download.
DLs: This is how many people currently downloading that particular torrent. They also help keep the torrent alive as they share while they download.

It's always best to download using a torrent that has a decent amount of seeders and downloaders, this way you can be assured there's a good chance your download will finish. The more the better.

Now that you should understand how torrent files work, and how to use them, on to Azureus!
First, get JAVA! You need this to run Azureus, as java is what powers it. Get Java here: java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
Next, get Azureus at: azureus.sourceforge.net
Next, get the Suprnovalister plugin from s93732957.onlinehome.us/storage/suprnovalister.jar

Install Java JRE before you do ANYTHING.

Install Azureus, and then in the installation folder, create 2 more folders. ./Plugins/suprnovalister (For example, if you installed Azureus to C:\PROGRAM FILES\AZUREUS, create C:\PROGRAM FILES\AZUREUS\PLUGINS\SUPRNOVALISTER). Next, put the suprnovalister.jar file that you downloaded, in that folder.

Load up Azureus, and if you want, go through the settings and personalize it.

The tab labeled "My Torrents" is the section of Azureus you need the most often. That lists all your transfers, uploads and downloads. It shows every bit of information you could possibly want to know about torrents you download.

In the menu bar, go to View > Plugins > Suprnova Lister. This will open up a new tab in Azureus. Click on "Update Mirror". This will get a mirror site of suprnova.org containing all current torrent files available. Once a mirror is grabbed, choose a category from the drop-down box to the left and click "Update". Wah-lah, all the available downloads appear in the main chart above. Just double click a download you want, and bang its starting to download. Open the "My Torrents" tab again to view and make sure your download started.

After your download has finished, be nice, and leave the torrent transferring. So people can get pieces of the file from you, just as you got pieces from other people.

Alternatively, if you don't want to use the plugin... you can just head to suprnova.org and download files to any folder. Then go to File > Open > .torrent File in Azureus.

This should about wrap it up for the Bit Torrent Tutorial. If you guys think of anything I should add, or whatnot, just let me know and I'll check into it.

HIDDEN CHROME GAME
There's a game hidden in Chrome's “unable to connect to the Internet” page. It features a T-Rex desperately trying to escape from some sort of nightmarish desert without running into any cacti on his way out. To find him, all you need to do is disconnect from the Internet (the easiest method is just to toggle the Wi-Fi or Modem off on your computer), then try to load a page. When the “unable to connect to the Internet” message pops up — y'know, the one with the dinosaur on it? — just hit the space bar. The dino will start running, and away you go.

HIDDEN FACEBOOK MESSENGER GAME
#1 BASKETBALL
Once you’ve launched the Facebook Messenger app, load up any conversation.

-Select the “basketball” emoji and send it to the other person. (You will find the emojis on your keyboard)
-Launch the basketball game by tapping on the basketball emoji you just sent. A basketball and a hoop will show up.

Flick the basketball with your finger to play the game.
You score a point when the ball lands up in the hoop.
If you manage to score a point, happy emojis pop up. If you lose, then you’re confronted with sad emojis.

#2 CHESS
You can access Facebook chess by typing a secret code into a chat window of the person you want to play chess with. This works on both the Web Version and FB Messenger

The secret code: @fbchess play

The game is a little tricky and will need getting used to.
-Type “@fbchess play” into the chat screen of the person you want to play with. This will reveal the chess board.
-The person that initiates the game will by default play White and is also allowed to make the first move.
-Every move needs to begin with the prefix “@fbchess.”
-So, if you want to move your pawn (P) to square E3, you would use the command “@fbchess Pe3.”
-The descriptive notation for the pieces is: K for king, Q for queen, B for bishop, N for knight, R for rook and P for pawn.
-Need help with the game? Type “@fbchess help.”
Some more info:
“@fbchess resign” ends the game

#3 FOOTBALL
-Select the Football emoji and send it to that person
-Start playing by tapping the emoji to send it flying up the screen
-Keep tapping the orb again and again to keep it bouncing in the air
-You can find the scores in the chat window

The ball keeps bouncing around the screen realistically and the game is interesting enough to keep you occupied.
The idea is very simple; as all you have to do is keep tapping to make sure the ball remains in the air. But once you start playing, you’ll see that it may not be as easy as it seems, as there are various tricks that make the game more difficult.

Agreed, they may not be the best games, but they’re still worth knowing about, especially if they can get you out of boredom when you have nothing else to do and with no game installed on your smartphone or tablet.

Posting a list of the world’s most-visited torrent sites has been a long-standing tradition at TF, which we continue today. At the start of 2016 KickassTorrents is pulling in most traffic followed by The Pirate Bay. A lot of things have happened over the past year, with some torrent sites disappearing from the scene and others taking their place.

Below is the full list of the top 10 most-visited torrent sites at the start of the new year. The list is based on various traffic reports and we display the Alexa rank for each. In addition, we include last year’s ranking for each of the 10 sites.

Most Popular Torrent Sites

1. KickassTorrents

(update July 2016: KAT is down)
KickassTorrents was founded in 2009 and surpassed The Pirate Bay in traffic last year. Battling various censorship efforts the site has burned through a few different domain names over the years. Most recently it switched to a Costa Rican .cr domain after it lost its Somalian .so address.
Alexa Rank: 85 / Last year #1

2. The Pirate Bay

The Pirate Bay is one of the main piracy icons. The torrent site wasn’t online at the beginning of 2015 and had to deal with a staff revolt. However, it quickly regained millions of users after a successful comeback operating from a hydra of domain names until last week.
Alexa Rank: NA / Compete Rank: NA / Last year #4

3. ExtraTorrent

ExtraTorrent continues to gain more traffic and has become one of the most active torrent communities. The site is also the home of the popular ETTV and ETRG release groups.
Alexa Rank: 342 / Last year #3

4. Torrentz

(Update August 2016: Torrentz has shut down)
Torrentz has been the leading BitTorrent meta-search engine for many years. Unlike the other sites featured in the list Torrentz does not host any torrent files or magnet links, but redirects visitors to other places on the web. The site uses several domain names with .eu being the most popular.
Alexa Rank: 351 / Last year #2

5. RARBG

RARBG, which started out as a Bulgarian tracker, was last year’s newcomer and continues to rake in more visitors. The site was blocked by UK ISPs last year, which put it on par with most other sites in the top 10.
Alexa Rank: 1,101 / Last year #7

6. 1337x

1337x has traditionally been a community driven torrent site but several weeks ago most of the admins and moderators abandoned ship over security concerns. The coming year it will become clear whether 1337x can keep its popular status.
Alexa Rank: 1,249 / Last year #9

7. EZTV.ag

TV-torrent distribution group EZTV shut down earlier this year after a hostile takeover. The site continued to operate under new ownership and releases its own torrents now. In solidarity with the original owners several large torrent sites have banned these ‘new’ releases from their sites.
Alexa Rank: 1,373 / Last year #NA

8. TorrentHound

TorrentHound has been around since the last decade but is a newcomer in the top 10. It has also been on the radar of copyright holders this year. The torrent site is blocked in several countries and was reported as a piracy haven to the U.S. government, alongside many other sites in this list.
Alexa Rank: 2,239 / Last year #NA

9. YTS.ag

YTS.ag has nothing to do with the original YTS or YIFY group, but aims to take its place. As with the new EZTV, several large torrent sites are not allowing the group to use the YIFY or YTS brands on their sites.
Alexa Rank: 740 / Compete Rank: 4,271 / Last year #NA

10. TorrentDownloads

TorrentDownloads has been around for several years. The torrent site regained a spot in the top 10 this year after it was featured for the last time in 2011. It’s a no-nonsense index that provides torrents to millions of users each month.
Alexa Rank: 2,969 / Last year #NA

Disclaimer: Yes, we know that Alexa isn’t perfect and that Compete has plenty of flaws, but when combined both do a pretty good job at comparing sites that operate in a similar niche.

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Shatta-Wale-art

Last weekend, the whole of Ghana witnessed as Stonebwoy took home the crown as Africa’s #1 music act at the BET awards in Los Angeles...

Fans immediately started making a mockery of the self-acclaimed dancehall king Shatta Wale for being the loudest mouth and yet his arch rival has gone ahead and done something he has failed to do, and all he could post on social media is his new range rover

Yesterday, Shatta Wale shared photos of his brand new Range Rover supposedly a gift from his father. Twitter user @Bla_blight riding on the wave of Stonebwoy’s BET award win, decided to torment Shatta Wale for focusing on unnecessary things in his career, and his response was well, very Shatta Walestic!

Proverbs! Proverbs are one of the rich traditions that build the fabric of a life in Kumasi. They are wise sayings that are used to season our language to make it more beautiful. As our elders say, Ba nyansafoɔ yebu no bɛ, yɛnnka no asɛm (to wit, the wise child is spoken to in proverb, not in mere words). It’s no secret though, that many of us have forgotten a chunk of this artful practice. So consider this a delightful reintroduction into the world of Asante Twi proverbs.

But there’s a twist. We’ve perused English wise sayings also, and we’ve been able to match proverbs from Ghana with those from the West. They are so thematically similar that some of them seem to have been written by the same person, but in different languages. Seems we’re not so different after all. Who knew?

For your cultural pleasure, Life in Kumasi presents, Twi and English proverbs matched at last.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #1

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-7-Takyi

Abaa a wɔde bɔɔ Takyi , ɛno ara na wɔde bɔ Baah // What’s good for the goose, is also good for the gander

The Akan proverb translates, the rod that was used to punish Takyi is very same one that will be used to strike Baah. You can see the two proverbs are somewhat different, but the thematic similarities are also easily seen. They both talk about equality of circumstance. If Takyi and Baah are peers then clearly they’ll be punished the same. In the same way, the goose and the gander are peers only separated by gender, and thus what applies to one applies to the other.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #2

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-8-tikoro

Tikoro nkɔ agyina // Two heads are better than one

This match is almost verbatim. Ditto ditto. The Twi  means ‘One head does not go into council’. Obviously the implication here is that when there are decisions to be made, it’s far better to have two people in council over the matter, than one. No wonder committees (‘kɔ-nom-teas’) are so popular in Ghana.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #3

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-10-nanka

Panyin a ɔtena fie ma mmɔfra we nanka no, yebu nankawefoɔ a ɔka ho // A man is known by the company he keeps.

The elder who looks on as the young people he lives with feast on a snake, is considered a snake eater himself. Eating a snake isn’t exactly held in the highest esteem in Akan  culture. Thus an elder is expected to discourage the younger people from doing so, if he sees them trying to eat snake meat. If he doesn’t stop them or even try, he is found guilty of the ‘crime’ of snake eating. A man is indeed judged by the company he keeps, and not only what he actually does.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #4

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-9-Time-flies

Berɛ te sɛ anomaa, woankyere no na otu a, wonhu no bio // Time flies

You’ve heard ‘Time flies’ so many times, and used it a lot yourself. But it not only the proverbial white man who made the comparison between time and flight. The proverb translates, Time is like a bird; if you don’t catch it and it flies away you’ll never see it again. Indeed time flies, especially when you’re having fun.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #5

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-11-women

Oyere te sɛ kuntu: wode kata wo so a wo ho keka wo; wuyi gu hɔ nso a, awɔ de wo // Women. Can’t live with them, can’t live without them

Oh, the paradox that is women! Just check out how clueless guys can be if you haven’t already. A wife is like a woollen blanket, as the proverb translates. If you cover yourself with it, it irritates you and yet if you take it off you feel cold. That pretty much sums it up for me. Ladies, we love you, but man! That’s why Akwasi Buroni also sighs in exasperation and says, Women; can’t live with them, can’t live without them. Boys abrɛ.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #6

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-12-easy-come1

Hwimhwim adeɛ kɔ srɔsrɔ // Easy come, easy go

I clearly remember the By The Fireside episode I first heard that proverb. The song went something like, “Hwimhwim ade kɔ srɔsrɔ, wohwim a ɛbehwim”, and you repeat that on and on till your bones grow weary. This one is kind of tricky to translate, and the best translation is its English wise saying match, Easy come easy go. Hwimhwim is like the onomatopoeia for snatching, and srɔsrɔ is also the sound something makes as it quickly slips out of your grasp. I guess we all agree all over the world, that ill-gotten goods quickly amassed, are just as quickly lost.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #7

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-3-bite-hand1

Obi mmfa ne nsa nnto obi anomu na ɔmmpae n’atifi // Don’t bite the hand that feeds you

You don’t put your finger in someone’s mouth and hit them on the top of their head. That’s just crazy, don’t do it. Don’t ask me why you’d put your finger in someone’s mouth in the first place, no that’s not the point. The point is if you do that and hit the person on the head, the person will automatically bite you. And that relates, in a transverse way, to the English wise saying Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Basically both proverbs say that if you’re at someone’s mercy, it’s foolish to try and hurt them. You’ll end up the loser.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #8

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-5-smoke1

Biribi anka papa anka angye grada // There is no smoke without fire

Translation: If nothing rustled the dry palm fronds, it wouldn’t have made a sound. Unrelated thought – if a tree falls down in the middle of the forest and there’s no one around to hear it, does it make a sound? Chew on that. Back to our wise sayings, once you see smoke you know there must have been a fire or there will be fire at some point. In the same way once you hear palm leaves making that ‘grada’ sound, you know something touched them. These proverbs talk about cause and effect.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #9

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-6-ventured1

Awaduwa kyinkyin a onya abɛ wɔ // Nothing ventured, nothing gained

When the pestle roams about in the mortar, it eventually finds palm nuts to pound. This is a wise saying right out of the kitchen, and the meaning is apparent. No matter how elusive the palm nut is, as long as it is in the mortar, the pestle will find it. This is an encouragement to get started on whatever you want to achieve. As long as it is achievable under the sun, you will succeed if you start and keep at it. If you don’t venture out there and start something, you don’t gain a thing.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #10

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-4-cut-nose1

Bafan se oreyɛ oni, na onnim sɛ ne to na oresɛe no // Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face

The cripple says he’s spiting his mother, failing to realize he’s wearing away his own backside. No matter how angry the paraplegic gets at his mother, he shouldn’t get angry and try to get back at her. In the end he’s causing the greater harm to himself. The English proverb illustrates the same sentiment in a more graphic way. Cutting off your own nose just to punish your face is without question the dumbest thing you could do.

WISE SAYINGS MATCH #11

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-2-goes-around1

Woamma wo yɔnko antwa nkron a, wo nso wontwa du // What goes around comes around

To wit, if you prevent your friend from harvesting nine, you’ll also fail to harvest ten. Simple as that. Your efforts to hinder the progress of another will indubitably stunt your own growth. Seriously, why you hatin’? Stop the hating, hater. Live and let live, because what goes around will definitely meet you at the corner.

…AND FINALLY, MATCH NUMERO 12

Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Proverbs-1-Akokono1

Akɔkono de bεtεbεtε na εwe abε // Slow and steady wins the race

I love that not only do these wise sayings match, they both refer to slow members of Kingdom Animalia. The English proverb is a reference to Aesop’s famous fable about the tortoise and the hare. Ah, that one too you don’t know? Oh ho. Please Google it, wai. The Twi says, The bagworm, in its weak and vulnerable state, slowly eats away the oil palm tree. So these last wise sayings are trying to tell you it does matter how hard, daunting or insurmountable the task is. If the squishy little akɔkono can chew its way through a whole palm, surely you can do better? I thought so.

Hope you loved this brief reintroduction to the fascinating world of proverbs. There’ll be more, real soon. But for now, as usual share and share alike, and let’s start a conversation about proverbs. Tɔntɔnte tɔntɔnte…
Topics tagged under 1 on HackGh Community Forum Dating10
So, after a long wait, your man finally proposed to you with the perfect rock. You are ecstatic, over the moon and the happiest person on the earth. Now, you want to break the news about this beautiful event of your life to all your loved ones, and to the entire world as well. Million thoughts must be floating in your head. You might have even made a list of all the things you want to do next (or, you just feel you HAVE to do next!).

But before you proceed further, there are few things, which you should avoid right after getting engaged, so that you can truly enjoy your engagement period.

#1. Don’t start calling everyone immediately

Don’t start calling your friends and family just moments after your dream man has slipped the ring on your finger. Just savour the moment. After all, this is the moment you have been waiting for years. And, when it has finally happened, instead of enjoying it and cherishing it with your prince charming, why do you want to let go of the moment calling and informing everyone?

We get it that you are excited and just can’t hold the news to yourself; but soak in the moment first, so that you never forget it for the rest of your life. You can always tell your family and friends about it after a little while.

#2. Don’t inform friends before parents

Parents should always come first, when it comes to sharing such a wonderful news. This is the most awaited moment for every parent. Getting to know this news from your friends will break their hearts, and you definitely don’t want that, do you?

So, break this news to your parents first in any way you like, and then spread the word to rest of the world.

#3. Don’t update status on social media before calling “besties”

Even if half of your job is done by informing your parents, it does not mean that you can now go on to your social media profile, and change your status to “Engaged”. You can get into trouble if any of your best friends come to know about your engagement from a post on Facebook.

They are your best pals; you should share this news with them, before updating your status. You don’t need to call everyone, just few close friends who have been with you in every situation.

#4. Don’t complain about the proposal

You might have have imagined your guy proposing you in a different way than the one he did. But does that mean that you should complain about it later to him or to your friends? Absolutely not. After all, your guy came out of his comfort zone for you, expressed his feelings and proposed to you in the most romantic way possible, or the way he thought you would certainly love. What else do you want?

Complaining will only spoil the situation and make him feel unhappy. Instead, seize the moment and enjoy your love.

#5. Don’t get in the wedding mode immediately

Next big step after the engagement is obviously the wedding. But instead of jumping into the wedding planning mode or asking him about the wedding plans, it is always better to forget about it for some time, just enjoy the moment.

You just got engaged and this is one of the best things which has ever happened to you, so why ruin all the fun with wedding venues, guest list and themes instantly? Talk about it when you both and your families are ready to take things down the wedding path. After all, it is just not about getting married; it is all about being with each other till the end.

So girls, avoid these few things right after getting engaged and you will have a happy, blissful engagement period.

JOKE...JOKE...JOKE...Crazy Patients - Fri Jan 09, 2015 3:19 pm

A doctor of psychology was doing his normal morning rounds when he entered a patient’s room.

He found Patient #1 sitting on the floor, pretending to saw a piece of wood in half.

Patient #2 was hanging from the ceiling, by his feet.

The doctor asked patient number 1 what he was doing.

The patient replied, “Can’t you see I’m sawing this piece of wood in half?”

The doctor inquired of Patient #1 what Patient #2 was doing.

Patient #1 replied, “Oh. He’s my friend, but he’s a little crazy. He thinks he’s a lightbulb.”

The doctor looks up and notices Patient #2’s face is going all red.

The doctor asks Patient #1, “If he’s your friend, you should get him down from there before he hurts himself”
