Kim Dotcom has announced that he is developing a brand new cloud storage platform, which could launch next January with a name that "will make people happy." At the moment, the entrepreneur has multiple legal cases underway in several jurisdictions: he’s fighting extradition to the US in New Zealand, while at the same time fighting a US government that accuses Dotcom of copyright infringement, conspiracy, money laundering and racketeering.

After Dotcom lost his MegaUpload, launched and then left Mega file-hosting site, many believed that he had left the file-sharing space forever. But now it turns out that the lure of data storage is just too much of a temptation for Dotcom, who has just made a surprising announcement: “A new site is in the making. 100gb free cloud storage.” He also said that it was too early to go into details of specific features for the new platform, but it is known that the new platform will enable users to sync all of their devices and have no data transfer limits. Besides, Dotcom revealed that the site would also provide on-the-fly encryption, which is very in-demand these days.

Although Dotcom hasn’t confirmed a potential launch date for the new service, he is currently teasing the hashtag #5thRaidAnniversary, which suggests that the new site can launch in January 2017, 5 years after the MegaUpload seizure. When asked about the name for the new cloud-storage service, the German entrepreneur hinted that an old name with a big reputation might be making a comeback and “make people happy.”

In the meantime, Dotcom is also developing his censorship-resistant MegaNet project, but admits that mobile networks and devices still have to catch up with it, so it might be not before 2018 until it is released.
