Parents chain seven-year-old girl for days

The timely intervention of the Kwahu Tafo Police saved a seven-year-old girl who had been chained to a pillar for over three days without food and water at Dobidi in the Kwahu East District.

The young girl, who was severely beaten by her father and step-mother resulting in bruises on her head and other parts of her body, got chained for refusing to go to the farm with the parents, and in their absence, eating the food her step-mother had prepared.

Chief Inspector Seth Ehuran, Police Station Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that last Sunday, his outfit received a complaint from a member of the Unit Committee that he had seen a child chained for over three days.

He said the police quickly followed up to the scene and saw the child chained to a wooden pillar looking frail with bruises on her body, but the parents were nowhere to be found.

Chief Inspector Ehuran said he quickly unchained the girl and rushed her to the Kwahu-Tafo Clinic, where she was treated and discharged.

He said after three days of searching for the parents, who had both been on the run, the step-mother, Afua Annorbea, finally reported to the Kwahu-Tafo Police on Tuesday morning and had since been handed over to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit at Mpreaso.

Meanwhile, the seven-year-old girl has been handed over to the Social Welfare Department at Mpraeso to be taken care of while the police embark on further investigations and search of her father, Kwasi Asante.

For the step mum being cruel to the girl, that i understand but the father, that i do not. Your own flesh and blood. If he can treat his own daughter as such, imagine what he would do to someone's kid. Cruelty at the highest level. He has to be sentenced for life.

Situations like this makes you wonder if God is still with us or we have been left to our own devices. what crime did this kid commit to be born to such despicable parents. Im sure this is not the first or last time this would happen. Pray that those enduring such torture wil be saved like this child has. God help them

I'm wondering what kind of help the Social Welfare could possibly offer the young girl. Being so under resourced and almost non functional. But I'm not surprised at all by the actions of the parents. It shows the depravity if the heart of man. They must definitely be brought to book. Kudos to the unit committee member for a good job done.

Its very sad how some parents react towards their children. At least, let the step-mum try to harm your child for you to avoid it but rather, a foolish father helped his wife to do such a thing to his biological daughter for not going to the farm with them.. What a father..
