Youth warned against ‘quick money mentality’

A Member of the Council of State, Nana Saa Gyamfuah, has challenged Ghanaians, especially the younger generation to discard what she described as “the quick money mentality”.

She observed that the phenomenon is a major contributory factor for the many young people who are falling foul of the law and thereby ending up in prison.

Nana Saa Gyamfuah, who is also the Queen of Anyima in the Kintampo South District in the Brong-Ahafo Region, made the observation when reached out to the inmates of the Central Prisons in Sunyani with a New Year package.

GBC’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo says the first point of call of the Member of the Council of State, was the Sunyani Female Prison where she donated some items.

Nana Saa Gyamfuah also presented a cheque for three thousand Ghana Cedis to the Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Commander of the Prisons Service, Chief Superintendent, Raphael Tuekpe for the male section of the prison for medical care.

The items donated to the female prison, included sanitary pads, toiletries, mosquito spray, mineral water and detergents.

Nana Saa Gyamfuah also dined with the female prisoners and told them that the package which was from her and her family, was to support government’s efforts as well as serve as a reminder to the inmates that they have not been forgotten by the larger society.

The Queen advised the prisoners to make personal commitments not to repeat what resulted in their incarceration when released after the completion of sentence(s) or through amnesty.

The Officer in Charge of the Sunyani Female Prison, Superintendent, Mrs Vera Bridget Sankah, was very appreciative of Nana Saa Gyamfuah’s kindness.

Superintendent, Mrs Sankah appealed for sewing machines to help the inmates learn a trade as well as a vehicle to transport the prisoners to hospital when the need arises.

The Prison officer’s wish list also included drugs for managing hypertension which she said is not covered under the National Health Insurance (NHIS).

The Pastor in charge of the Bechem Christian Faith and Grace Ministry, Pastor Emmanuel Amankwah Afrifa who preached during the presentation, admonished the inmates not to be despaired but to put their trust in the Lord.

He charged the prison officers to equally play their expected roles to reform the prisoners for the good of society.

youth nowadays and quick money issues have become so much that everyday an issue of this subject pops up.sometimes i don't blame them but they should remember that whatever hungry you are you cannot eat with both hands guys.

well with all the lack of jobs phenomenom, the taxes increases in utiltiy bills and no increases in salaries a quick money making scheme is what people will resort to because they are out of options and also because it pays so this is a problem that goverment can solve buy increasing salaries and taking better measures to better the lives of people

I don't blame the youth for resorting to ways of making money quick due to the high standard of living in the country of late... Talk about lack of companies to contain graduates and other related issues which are downing our dear Ghana...

Its hard to survive nowadays in a Ghana here when you are not working or doing anything enough take care of yourself... Even some graduates have not yet done their national service and are still in their homes waiting and hoping things get better which doesn't... So what other options are there other than resorting to quick ways of making money???

A whole lot of increment here and there to the extent that without any solid job, you just cant survive... The government should do their work and make things better for a better living since that is the only way this quick money attitude can be minimized... Other than that, nothing will change and the this quick money mentality among the youth will rather increase...

With the elections around the corner the desperate politicians will use the youth for violence and election malpractices and the ones with quick money mentality will be used by the greedy politicians it's sad but that what happens.............hopefully this coming elections won't be chaotic
